The Week Ahead: 1/22/18 to 1/28/18

We are back at it Global Writers! You are doing a great job starting the AP team project. Make sure to stay on top of your calendars and watch out for the deadlines coming up! Manage your time AND ASK FOR HELP! I am here to help you through this process!

Our grammar focus this week is active & passive voice, and how you can incorporate it in your writing. There will be a lesson and activity on Monday, you will have a No Red Ink practice due by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, and a QUEST on Friday. Here is a link to some notes, if you want additional review.

Our FSA Reading focus this week will be determining the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the cumulative impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone (e.g., how the language evokes a sense of time and place; how it sets a formal and informal tone). In order to do this, you will practice by reading an excerpt from Frankenstein: The Creature’s Request by Mary Shelley. This practice on CommonLit will be due next Monday night by 11:59 pm! Remember to take your time and use context clues to determine the meanings. In addition, on Tuesday, you will spend a little bit of class time comparing and contrasting the past two articles from CommonLit.

In class this week, you will be moving forward with your individual research for the individual research report. By the end of Monday, you and your team will need to submit a rationale for your team topic/topic, and a brief explanation of your research up to this point. This assignment is outlined on Google Classroom.

Your individual research will continue until Thursday. By Thursday evening, you will need to submit a research log to Google Classroom by 11:59 pm. Be sure to check in to Google Classroom to see the template and directions.

On Friday you will begin writing your Individual Research Report. Throughout the week we will be looking at sample essays and reviewing some skills from earlier in the year.
