General Paper Review:
This week we will be looking at body paragraphs the upcoming AICE General Paper. Just as last week, you will have a drafted piece of writing due on Wednesday and a final piece of that same writing due on Friday. This week you will create 3 body paragraphs. Your prompt this week will be:
“Modern society is too reliant on pill-popping.” Assess this opinion.
You will need to draft out three hand written body paragraphs, as if you were sitting at the General Paper exam. Remember, the first step is to plan – no matter what you are writing! Don’t forget about the hand approach. Your goal is to complete these practices without any research, but rather use the information you already know to answer the questions. This is where reviewing your past current event assignments can help out!
Here is a great page about transition words as a reminder!
Don’t forget that The Skimm is a great daily resource to say up to date on the news around the world. Sign up here.
You can ALSO go back and watch OLD CNN 10 video’s (also known as CNN Student News). The exam was written about two years ago, so it could be pulling from the current events of that year.
You have officially finished your IWA draft, if you are on the timeline that I laid out for you. In class on Monday you will be peer editing you draft. From that point forward, writing and finalizing your essay will be done on YOUR time. Your final essay is due on April 17th at 11:59pm to both Google Classroom and TurnItIn.com.
*See below for my after school/before school/lunch/weekend extra help schedule*
The rest of the week will be devoted to working on your Individual Multi Media Presentation. This is also known as your IMP. You can find your rubric here. Remember, you will need to answer 2 oral defense questions at the end of your presentation. Use the previous link to find information to help you prepare for this!
I would like you to be ready to practice your presentation by Thursday. Due to various school events, we will be unable to practice outside on Friday as I had planned.
Presentations will begin on April 18th in class and will go into the following week! Sign up’s will occur on Tuesday April 10th in class.
This week’s CommonLit assignment is Anton Chekov’s “The Bet.” It is along the lines of “The Lottery” so I thought you may enjoy it! It is due Thursday by 11:59 pm to CommonLit. If you are unsure on what a word means, use context clues and a dictionary. This is a period of learning! Use the time you are given! This will be the LAST FSA practice of the year! Be sure to stop by before school, after school, or at lunch, to ask me for help!
There will be a Saturday Session this week in the media center from 9am to 1pm. Please RSVP using this link. Class on Monday and Tuesday next week will be minimal because of FSA testing.

Slam poetry will have their last slam on Tuesday after school in room 5-212. It should go no later than 5pm. I will be in my room after school until 4:30, as stated above, or until the last student is out of my room. You do not have to attend for the entire event, but I would like you to stay for at least the first round. This event will be a bit different that the one’s earlier this year because the team will be scored on their poem’s! I hope you can attend!
